Tonight will feature music from Phase III of Stephane’s new Triptych record.

Stephane Wrembel is recognized as one of the preeminent guitarists in the world. With a career spanning the globe, he has released over 20 recordings and toured incessantly since 2003. His original compositions have been featured in Midnight in Paris (“Bistro Fada”) and Vicky Cristina Barcelona (“Big Brother”). Midnight in Paris received the Grammy Award® for Best Compilation Soundtrack.  He has shared the stage with iconic artists like Elvis Costello, Patti Smith, The Roots, Medeski Martin & Wood, and many more. His annual music festival, “Django A Gogo,” has gained global recognition as a premier event celebrating the life and music of legendary guitarist and composer, Django Reinhardt.

Wrembel released a triptych–a three-part recording series Phase I, Phase II and Phase III—in April of 2024 on his own Water Is Life Records on 3 CDs and all digital streaming platforms. The recording features improvisational pianist Jean-Michel Pilc and includes new original compositions by Wrembel and Pilc as well as select pieces by Django Reinhardt.  The 20-track Triptych was released in its entirety on all major streaming platforms on August 23, 2024.

Downbeat Magazine gave it 4 ½ stars out of 5 saying “…an outstanding and often surprising effort that is bound to please Django purists and renegades alike.”

Jean-Michel Pilc, acclaimed for his improvisational prowess, is a pianist and composer with a distinguished career. He has performed alongside jazz legends worldwide, served as the musical director and pianist for Harry Belafonte, and engaged in memorable duets with opera singer Jessye Norman. Pilc has released several recordings with his trio and gained acclaim as a solo performer, with five critically acclaimed solo piano records. Currently residing in Montreal, he is a member of the Jazz Faculty at The Schulich School of Music of McGill University.

Wrembel says, “This triptych, this collection of three albums forming a whole, is a representation of a journey of a human life. This project is the most representative of my inner world, a mirror of my soul. I am very fortunate to be working with some of the greatest musicians on Earth including the admirable Jean-Michel Pilc on piano, one of the greatest pianists, a magician of the keys.”

For this very special show, Wrembel will be accompanied by his world-class band– Josh Kaye on guitar, Ari Folman-Cohen on bass and Nick Anderson on drums—with special guests Nick Driscoll on tenor sax and clarinet and Jean-Michel Pilc on piano promising a captivating musical experience.
