The year 2020 was a strange time to start a band, but The Local Hang-Ups did and are making the best of it. The Local Hang-Ups, the project of Abbey Sitterley and Katy Martin, first started playing music together at the onset of the pandemic. Abbey Sitterley is a singer-songwriter and also a published writer. Katy Martin is formerly the singer for local indie band Cottage Street and the daughter of novelty music notable Zilch Fletcher. Both influenced from a young age by 60s groups and eclectic musical styles, they instantly enjoyed working together on producing their own sound. The band self-recorded and released their first single, “Love Somebody” in June 2020 and then released their first EP, “Dialtone,” in 2021; a collection of original songs with intertwining themes that unite to form a call for community amidst times of isolation.
