Oakland bands miRthkon & MoeTar are coming to your town!

Two mainstays in the Oakland music scene are joining forces to pry themselves off the west coast during a short 8-day tour on the east side of the country. The goal: to attack fresh brains and melt new faces. While quite disparate in sound and scope, these two bands share a deep musical philosophy and obvious love of what they do with an emphasis on inspiration through challenge without being pretentious dorks about it. They aim to push envelopes without fear - there's no hiding behind smart-ass irony, nor shredding for shredding's sake (though they both shred indeed). They show that music can be beautiful, fun, inspiring, and mind expanding without alienating anybody.

Oakland, CA-based miRthkon is an amplified chamber ensemble masquerading as a rock band. This illusion is well maintained by the fact that from time to time they do, indeed, rock. Maintaining an aesthetic stance that they are (quite happily) "beneath everything," their music -- whether evoking the influence of progressive rock, contemporary classical abstraction, avant-garde jazz, catchy hook-laden pop, or thrash metal -- is held to a simple but firm standard: Does it sound good? 2009 saw the release of their debut album VEHICLE on the renowned Italian progressive music label AltrOck Productions and they were soon sharing the stage with Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, District 97, Kayo Dot, Carl Kihlstedt & Matthias Bossi, and Stolen Babies, to name a few. In July 2012 AltrOck released their highly anticipated feature-length concert film/surrealistic documentary/conspiracy thriller "(Format)" on DVD, Blu-Ray, and several on-demand streaming services.

MoeTar - http://www.moetar.com

Bay Area-based modern progressive rock band, MoeTar, collects seemingly disparate and opposing sonic forces to create a coherent artistic statement for their Magna Carta Records debut, From These Small Seeds.  MoeTar's two main protagonists, lead singer Moorea Dickason and bassist/composer Tarik Ragab, along with a versatile crew of musicians who also play with a varied roster of artists including Secret Chiefs 3, Lauryn Hill, and Narada Michael Walden, create catchy, yet complex, music that attempts to make sense of our confusing world. MoeTar's early success brought them the esteem of performing with legendary artists Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Allan Holdsworth, and Brain Salad. MoeTar offers a fresh approach to rock, pop, electronica and experimental music that is the culmination of a collision of styles that seems to defy the odds -- and our ears.
