Each performer is allowed either 2 or 3 songs (determined at the beginning of the night by how many performers are signed up). Performers that don't use "songs" (comedians, poets, improvisational music, etc) are allowed ten minutes for their set. Sign up sheet is made available twenty minutes before open mic begins, and order is determined on a first come/first serve basis. 1st spot gets an extra song! WE PROVIDE: The PA system (mics, speakers, etc), guitar cables, a baby grand piano, a host/sound engineer. Many times there are musicians hanging around to play if you are a singer without an accompanist! WE DON'T PROVIDE: Drums, guitar/bass amps, guitars. Unless you are a singer or pianist, bring your own instruments! Although the majority of our performances are on acoustic guitar/piano, we do allow full bands as long as the musicians are respectful of others time and space. A versatile musician and veteran performer in organizations such as the Louie Bellson Big Band (Chicago Based Band), Jimmy Dorsey, Mike Pendowski, Rob Parton , Buddy De Franco, Buselli-Wallrab and Terry Gibbs Bands, Rick Holland brings a wealth of experience and musicality to each performance. Holland has now recorded 5 albums as a leader and co-leader with national and international labels. His most recent release, In Times Shadow, featuring the Rick Holland-Evan Dobbins Little Big Band, was recorded in the summer of 2005. It features the writing of Bill Dobbins (co-producer), Brent Wallarab, Jim Martin and Kerry Strayer. Rick has agreed to release this album under the Blujazz label, one of the top Jazz independent labels in the world today. Other releases include, Positive Settings,(Cadence,2001) and (There Will Never Be Another You, Cadence,1999), featuring the Rick Holland Quartet. These albums were highly praised by periodicals such as the All Music Guide, Jazz Improv Magazine, Cadence Magazine and Detroit Jazz. Rick also has made two significant recordings with long-time playing partners Hendrik Meurkens, You’d Be So Nice To Come Home To,(Cadence, 2002) and with Kerry Strayer, ( Rhombus Records, Speak Low,2003). Each performer is allowed either 2 or 3 songs (determined at the beginning of the night by how many performers are signed up). Performers that don't use "songs" (comedians, poets, improvisational music, etc) are allowed ten minutes for their set. Sign up sheet is made available twenty minutes before open mic begins, and order is determined on a first come/first serve basis. 1st spot gets an extra song! WE PROVIDE: The PA system (mics, speakers, etc), guitar cables, a baby grand piano, a host/sound engineer. Many times there are musicians hanging around to play if you are a singer without an accompanist! WE DON'T PROVIDE: Drums, guitar/bass amps, guitars. Unless you are a singer or pianist, bring your own instruments! Although the majority of our performances are on acoustic guitar/piano, we do allow full bands as long as the musicians are respectful of others time and space. If you are a drummer, it is suggested that you bring in your drums before open mic begins (8:30ish) and set them up off to the side as to make for a speedy transition and not disrupt others' performances.
